DSS Pledges Security, Sponsorship for 2026 Nigerian Society of Engineers Conference
The Department of State Services (DSS) has pledged comprehensive security support for the 2026 International Engineering Conference, Exhibition and Annual General Meeting of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), while also committing to stronger collaboration on indigenous technology development and sponsoring its engineers to participate in the event.
The commitment was made by the Director-General of the DSS, Oluwatosin Adeola Ajayi, during a courtesy visit by the President of the Nigerian Society of Engineers, Engr. Ali Alimasuya Rabiu, and members of the Conference Planning Committee at the Service Headquarters in Abuja.
The conference is scheduled to hold in Maiduguri, Borno State, from November 30 to December 4, 2026, under the theme, “Engineering Innovation for Enhanced Security and Sustainable National Development.”
Speaking during the meeting, the NSE President said preparations for the conference were progressing smoothly, following recent inspection and stakeholder engagement visits to Maiduguri, where the Conference Planning Committee held consultations with the DSS State Command and other security agencies.
He expressed confidence in the city’s readiness to host more than 6,000 engineers, policymakers, researchers, industry leaders and development partners expected at the annual gathering.
Rabiu appealed for continued DSS support through intelligence sharing, security advisory services, threat assessments and inter-agency coordination before and during the conference. He also invited the DSS Director-General to attend as a special guest and encouraged engineers serving in the Service to contribute to the conference’s technical sessions and exhibition.
In his response, Ajayi described engineering as a strategic pillar of national security and sustainable development, assuring the NSE of the Service’s full commitment to ensuring a successful and secure conference.
He disclosed that the DSS would deploy adequate personnel and security assets to protect delegates, conference venues, accommodation facilities and other critical locations throughout the event.
The Director-General also advocated greater investment in local engineering capacity, noting that Nigerian engineers possess the expertise required to deliver major infrastructure projects across the country.
He further revealed that the DSS is collaborating with the National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI) on the development of advanced engineering technologies and encouraged the NSE to identify qualified Nigerian engineers for future collaboration.
As part of its support, the DSS announced it would sponsor engineers from its national headquarters and commands across the country to participate in the Maiduguri conference.
Both organisations reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening collaboration in engineering innovation, indigenous technology development, critical infrastructure protection and national security, while highlighting the important role of engineering in addressing Nigeria’s development and security challenges.
