NAF Airlifts Sensitive Electoral Materials Ahead of Ekiti Governorship, By-Elections

The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has successfully airlifted sensitive electoral materials for the 2026 Ekiti State Governorship Election and a series of senatorial and federal constituency by-elections scheduled for June 20, 2026, reinforcing its commitment to supporting democratic governance through Aid to Civil Authority operations.

The airlift operation, conducted between June 15 and 16, followed a request by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for the secure and timely transportation of sensitive election materials from Abuja to designated locations across the country.

According to the NAF, the operation supported preparations for the Ekiti State Governorship Election, as well as senatorial by-elections in Enugu North Senatorial District of Enugu State, Nasarawa North Senatorial District of Nasarawa State, and Rivers South East Senatorial District of Rivers State.

The mission also covered federal constituency by-elections in Dawakin Kudu/Warawa Federal Constituency of Kano State and Zuru/Shanga Federal Constituency of Kebbi State.

Leveraging its strategic airlift capabilities, the Air Force transported the sensitive materials from the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, to designated airports in Enugu, Rivers and Kano states, ensuring their delivery to INEC within the stipulated timeline ahead of the polls.

Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke, commended the professionalism and dedication of personnel involved in the operation, noting that the successful mission reflects the Service’s unwavering commitment to supporting democratic institutions and national development.

He reaffirmed the readiness of the Nigerian Air Force to continue providing timely and effective support to civil authorities in the discharge of their constitutional responsibilities while maintaining a high level of operational readiness in defence of the nation.

The Air Force stated that the operation highlights its longstanding partnership with INEC in safeguarding the integrity of Nigeria’s electoral process, stressing that the timely delivery of sensitive materials remains crucial to the conduct of credible elections and the strengthening of public confidence in democratic institutions.

According to the Service, the mission further demonstrates the versatility of NAF air power in advancing critical national objectives while sustaining ongoing operations across various theatres in defence of the country.

The statement added that the successful airlift underscores the Nigerian Air Force’s enduring commitment to national service and its role as a dependable partner in promoting democratic governance, stability and national development.
