Peter Obi Unveils Vision for Productive, Prosperous Nigeria Ahead of 2027 Election
The presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) for the 2027 general election, Peter Obi, has unveiled his vision for a “productive and prosperous Nigeria,” promising wide-ranging reforms in education, healthcare, industrialisation and governance if elected.
In a statement issued on Wednesday to mark the beginning of a new month, Obi said his administration would prioritise human capital development, national unity and inclusive governance as the foundation for economic growth and national transformation.
He recalled that his decision to seek the presidency was driven by a commitment to place Nigeria on the path of unity and sustainable development.
According to Obi, he will, in the coming weeks and months, present a detailed roadmap outlining policies aimed at tackling abuse in government, improving the quality of life of Nigerians and fostering unity, peace and long-term prosperity.
The former governor of Anambra State said his proposed agenda would be anchored on the principles of unity, inclusion, social justice, equity and the freedom of every Nigerian to pursue legitimate aspirations.
Obi identified education and healthcare as top priorities, describing investment in human capital as essential for national development and economic progress.
He pledged that one of the first actions of his administration would be the establishment of a national task force to significantly reduce the number of out-of-school children across the country.
The NDC presidential candidate also promised to strengthen Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) to support industrialisation, agricultural value addition and job creation.
According to him, the proposed reforms would include increased funding for technical institutions, improved equipment and stronger partnerships between government, the private sector and faith-based organisations to expand apprenticeship opportunities, drawing inspiration from Germany’s dual vocational education system.
Obi said his administration would also prioritise character and civic education to promote responsible leadership, national cohesion and shared values among Nigerians.
He stressed the need to address the shortage of skilled labour, noting that many Nigerian entrepreneurs continue to establish businesses abroad due to the lack of adequately trained workers at home.
The statement concluded with his campaign message, reaffirming his belief that “A New Nigeria is Possible.”
