Popular TikTok content creator Habeeb Hamzat, popularly known as Peller, and his associate, Bello Oladipo, have been arraigned before a Lagos Magistrate Court over their alleged confrontation with police officers on the Lagos Coastal Road.

The duo appeared before the court on Sunday on a three-count charge bordering on alleged conspiracy, obstruction of public officers in the discharge of their duties, and conduct likely to cause a breach of public peace.

According to the charge sheet, the incident occurred on July 2 after police officers intercepted Peller for allegedly driving a vehicle without a number plate.

Peller reportedly told the officers that he had recently purchased the vehicle, while the police insisted he accompany them to the station for further investigation.

The prosecution alleged that the situation escalated when the TikToker began recording the encounter, with the defendants accused of resisting and obstructing officers from carrying out their lawful duties.

The charges further alleged that the pair threatened and filmed police officers while they were performing their official responsibilities, an act the prosecution said was capable of causing a breach of public peace.

The defendants were charged under relevant provisions of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, including offences relating to conspiracy, obstruction of public officers and conduct likely to disturb public peace.

Both Peller and Oladipo pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The court subsequently granted each defendant bail in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties. One of the sureties must be a blood relative, while the defendants were also directed to provide two years’ tax clearance certificates as part of their bail conditions.

The case was adjourned to a later date for further proceedings.
