Arik Air Flight Diverts to Benin After Engine Scare, All 80 Passengers Safe

An Arik Air flight operating from Lagos to Port Harcourt was forced to make an emergency diversion on Tuesday after the crew reported hearing a loud bang from the aircraft’s left engine during descent.

The flight, W3 740, a Boeing 737-700, was approaching Port Harcourt when the unusual sound was detected. In line with standard safety procedures, the pilots immediately initiated precautionary measures and diverted the aircraft to Benin Airport.

The plane landed safely in Benin, and all 80 passengers and crew members disembarked without any injuries.

In an official statement, Arik Air confirmed that the diversion was taken as a safety precaution after the operating crew heard a loud bang from the left engine while descending into Port Harcourt. The airline emphasized that the safety and wellbeing of passengers remain its top priority.

Passengers are currently being attended to, with arrangements underway to transport them to Port Harcourt to complete their journey.

Arik Air also apologised to passengers affected by the disruption, particularly those bound for Port Harcourt, and assured the public of its continued commitment to maintaining the highest safety standards in its operations.
