Army Chief Urges Strategic Leadership and Training at Air Force War College Lecture

The Chief of Army Staff Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja has emphasizes the importance of developing subordinates and fostering strategic leadership in the Nigerian Armed Forced and other security agencies.

 

The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), stated this while delivered a compelling lecture titled “Military Strategic Leadership: My Perspective” at the Air Force War College Nigeria (AFWCN) in Makurdi, Benue State at Air War Course 10/2024.

Highlighting the significance of strategic leadership, General Lagbaja stressed that it serves as the cohesive force within the Armed Forces, guiding personnel to operate within established boundaries for national security.

He underscored the necessity for participants to immerse themselves in training, particularly in Civil Military Relations (CMR), to effectively engage with all segments of society, including the political class.

General Lagbaja also urged future strategic leaders to delegate responsibilities to their subordinates, fostering competence development through on-the-job training.

He emphasized the moral courage required to entrust tasks to subordinates, facilitating their growth while enhancing operational effectiveness.

He also advocated for active participation in the implementation of the Defence Industries Corporation of Nigeria (DICON) Act 2023.

He lauded President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s endorsement of the act, which aims to bolster domestic manufacturing of defense equipment, reducing reliance on foreign procurement.

The lecture drew participants from diverse backgrounds, including the Nigerian Army, Nigerian Navy, Nigerian Air Force, civilians, and international attendees.

General Lagbaja’s insightful discourse provided a roadmap for aspiring strategic leaders to navigate contemporary and emerging security challenges effectively.
