In a significant development following the Okuama community tragedy, the Nigerian Army has relinquished custody of HRH Clement Ikolo, the King of Ewu Kingdom, to Senator Ede Dafinone, representing Delta Central.

The king had been detained in connection to the killing of 17 personnel on March 14.

HRH Clement Ikolo voluntarily surrendered himself to authorities after being declared wanted along with seven other suspects by the army.

The handover, conducted by the Director of Army Public Relations, Maj.-Gen. Onyema Nwachukwu, came after preliminary investigations revealed insufficient evidence to establish the traditional ruler’s culpability conclusively.

While addressing the media, Nwachukwu emphasized the ongoing efforts to bring those responsible for the heinous act to justice, stressing that the release of the monarch underscores the army’s commitment to upholding the rule of law and justice.

Senator Dafinone, intervening on behalf of the traditional ruler, vouched for his character, leading to his release on bail under the condition of continued cooperation with the investigating authorities.

The senator commended the army for their professionalism and assured dignified treatment for all involved.

Expressing gratitude for the fair treatment received during his detention, HRH Clement Ikolo pledged full support and cooperation with the army to ensure the perpetrators are brought to justice.

He thanked God, the Delta State Governor, members of the National Assembly from the state, and the army for their support.

The release of HRH Clement Ikolo signals a step forward in the investigation, with authorities urging others to come forward for questioning, promising fair treatment in accordance with constitutional provisions.

The collaborative efforts between the army, political figures, and the community are crucial in achieving justice for the victims of the Okuama tragedy.
