Army, Police EOD Team Recover Suspected IED in Zamfara, Reopen Road

Troops of the Nigerian Army, in collaboration with the Nigeria Police Force Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team, have successfully recovered and neutralised a suspected improvised explosive device (IED) discovered along a road in Zurmi Local Government Area of Zamfara State.

The operation was conducted on August 7, 2026, following a report of a suspected explosive device planted along the Jabanda route in Zurmi LGA.

Acting swiftly on the report, troops of CSI Battalion VI/CT 2, Joint Task Force North-West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, deployed from Forward Operating Base Kaura Namoda to the area alongside personnel of the Nigeria Police Force EOD team and the 1 Brigade Quick Reaction Force.

The security team located the suspected device and successfully cleared and recovered it from the affected section of the road.

Following the successful operation, the route was declared safe and reopened to motorists, restoring normal movement and reducing the risk to residents and other road users.

The operation highlights the importance of inter-agency collaboration under Operation FANSAN YAMMA in detecting and neutralising explosive threats and protecting communities across Nigeria’s North-West.

Security forces have continued to maintain vigilance across the area and urged residents to promptly report suspicious objects or activities to the appropriate security agencies.
