Atiku Denies Rumours of Retirement from Politics, Alleges Disinformation Campaign

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has dismissed reports claiming he has stepped aside from active politics, describing the information as false and deliberately misleading.

In a statement issued by his media office on Monday, Atiku clarified that he has not held any meeting with stakeholders of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) at the national level where such a decision was discussed.

The statement noted that his only recent engagement with the party was a meeting with ADC stakeholders in Adamawa State, stressing that any major political decision of that magnitude would be formally communicated through official channels.

“Atiku Abubakar has not in recent times held any such meeting with ADC stakeholders at the national level,” the statement read, adding that claims of his retirement were baseless.

The media office further described the circulating reports as part of a coordinated disinformation campaign aimed at creating confusion and weakening political momentum.

According to the statement, “An issue as fundamental as exiting active politics cannot and would never be communicated through rumours or faceless sources.”

Atiku also alleged that the narrative may have been orchestrated by anti-democratic elements unsettled by what he described as a growing national consensus for change.

He urged his supporters, members of the ADC, and Nigerians at large to disregard the reports and remain focused on efforts to strengthen democratic values and national development.

The clarification comes amid heightened political activity and realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections.
