The Authority Chief Executive, Engr. Saidu A. Mohammed, has called for deeper integration of digital technologies, investment capital, and regulatory frameworks to improve efficiency and competitiveness in Nigeria’s petroleum industry.
He made the call on Thursday in Abuja at the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) Nigeria Council’s Oloibiri Lecture Series and Energy Forum (OLEF) 2026.
Engr. Mohammed noted that Nigeria’s ambition of producing 3 million barrels per day of crude oil must be pursued in parallel with the “Decade of Gas” target of 22 billion cubic feet per day. According to him, achieving both goals will require strong financing mechanisms, advanced technological adoption, and stable policy environments that can attract long-term investment.
He stressed that the future of the sector depends on coordinated efforts among regulators, operators, and investors, particularly in the areas of infrastructure development and digital transformation.
The Authority Chief Executive also announced plans to launch Project NEXUS, a strategic initiative designed to strengthen regulatory efficiency, fast-track gas development, and position Nigeria as a leading energy hub on the African continent.
Engr. Mohammed further emphasized that sustained collaboration and innovation remain essential for unlocking the full potential of the country’s oil and gas resources.
The event featured key industry stakeholders, including the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Gas), Rt. Hon. Ekperipe Ekpo; the Commission Chief Executive, Mrs. Oritsemeyiwa Eyesan; and the Group Chief Executive Officer of NNPC Ltd, Engr. Bashir Bayo Ojulari, among other energy sector leaders.
