NUPRC, Petroleum Ministry Strengthen Synergy on Upstream Sector Policy, Regulation

The Commission Chief Executive of the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC), Oritsemeyiwa Eyesan, has hosted the Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Petroleum Resources, Patience Oyekunle, at the Commission’s headquarters in Abuja, in a move aimed at strengthening coordination between policy direction and regulatory implementation in the upstream oil and gas sector.

During the meeting, Oyekunle reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to working closely with the Commission to ensure full alignment between government policy objectives and regulatory execution. She stressed that the upstream petroleum sector remains central to Nigeria’s economy, with direct implications for crude oil production, foreign exchange earnings, revenue generation, and overall economic stability.

She further noted that while the Ministry acknowledges ongoing progress in the sector, it will continue to provide strategic policy guidance and expects timely engagement, responsiveness, and seamless coordination from the regulatory body to ensure effective implementation.

In her response, Eyesan emphasized the importance of sustained collaboration between both institutions, describing it as critical to the continued growth and stability of the oil and gas industry. She noted that while the Ministry provides overarching policy direction, the Commission is responsible for regulatory oversight, adding that stronger synergy would help the sector achieve stronger performance and long-term sustainability.

Both parties agreed that closer institutional alignment remains essential to unlocking the full potential of Nigeria’s upstream petroleum sector and ensuring consistent industry growth.
