Bauchi AGILE projects to renovate 1003 secondary schools

The Bauchi State Adolescent Girls Initiative for Learning and Empowerment (AGILE) World Bank funded Projects to renovate 1003 junior and senior secondary schools across the state.

Mr Ali Sule Gar, Project Coordinator of the State AGILE Project, stated this at a day sensitization workshop for members of School Based Management Committees (SBMC) on Wednesday in Bauchi.

He said the objective of the renovation is to provide a conducive teaching and learning atmosphere to encourage school enrollment and retention.

Gar said the AGILE project seeks to improve access to quality education for adolescent girls in the state

He said the SBMCs will be directly responsible for spearheading the renovation of their respective schools. “It is your project. You own it,” he said.

The Coordinator explained that funds meant for the renovation project will be made available to all SBMCs through a dedicated bank account.

“The account will be closely monitored to ensure transparency and accountability in both the application and administration of the funds,” he emphasized.

Deputy Speaker, Bauchi State House of Assembly, Jamilu Umaru Dahiru assured that lawmakers will closely monitor the renovation exercise as part of their oversight function.

He warned that anyone found embezzling funds meant for the project will be sanctioned accordingly to deter others.

In his remarks, the Bauchi State Chairman of School Based Management Committee (SBMC) Alhaji Nuru Haruna Tukur emphasized on the importance of the AGILE and assured their support to create more awareness of the project in the state.

The AGILE project team was also at the Bununu town of Tafawa Balewa Local Government on a similar purpose.

Members of Schools Based Management Committee (SBMC) that attended were drawn from Alkaleri,Kirfi, Bauchi and Toro local government areas.
