The Bauchi State House of Assembly has urged the state government to as a matter of urgency allocate 2,500 housing units constructed to the beneficiaries to avoid destruction and damage across the state.

Our correspondent reports that the Bauchi state government has constructed 2,500 housing units under mass housing programmes across six local govt areas of Bauchi, Dass, Ningi, Misau, Jammare and Katagum in the State.

Mr Saidu Darazo, Chairman House Committee on Housing made the call during the oversight function of the committee’s visit to the housing project sites at the weekend.

The lawmaker commended the state government for executing such a project, noting that the housing units were commendable and affordable for state civil servants.

According to him, the houses when put into use will prevent a lot of maintenance and provide much-needed housing to the populace.

Darazo also expressed satisfaction with the standard and quality of work done in some of the areas visited

He warned contractors that abandoned their projects in Katagum, and Jama’are to move back to sites and complete their work on the houses.

Responding, Mr Hamma Mohammed, the Overseeing Director of housing in the state Ministry of Housing said the 2500 housing units consist of 2 and 3-bedroom apartments all completed except for a few ones blown off by windstorm and are under repairs.

He said civil servants can afford to secure an apartment in the housing estate with less financial stress.

Mohammad revealed that the remaining project will be completed soonest, noting that the delay experienced was as a result of the current inflation of building materials in the market.

According to him, access roads, drainages, portable water, electricity and infrastructures were provided, and the houses will soon be ready for use.

He added that the state Ministry for Housing and Environment has already presented an allocation plan to the state government waiting for approval.
