The Bauchi State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to promoting women’s empowerment and gender equality in the State.

Hajiya Zainab Babatakko, Commissioner for Women Affairs, Child Development, and Social Welfare, made the pledge during an advocacy visit by members of the Women Peace and Security group to commemorate International Peace Day in Bauchi

The delegation, comprising the Women Mediation Network, media, and He4She group, aimed to familiarize the newly appointed commissioner with the Women Peace and Security structure and build synergy for peace-related initiatives in the State.

Babatakko emphasized her desire to enhance women’s empowerment in Bauchi State, pledging to participate in upcoming activities and maintain communication without formal appointment requirements.

“We are committed to creating an inclusive and equitable society where women have equal opportunities to thrive.

“We will work tirelessly to promote women’s participation in decision-making processes, provide training and resources for economic empowerment, and foster a culture of equality and inclusivity.

“By working together, the State Government and organizations like Women Peace and Security can create a brighter future for women in the state,” Babatakko said.

The lead delegation, Hajiya Binta Adamu, said the advocacy visit follows the United Nations’ training on Resolution 1325, which focuses on women’s role in peacebuilding and conflict prevention.

She explained that the Women Mediation Network, with support from UN Women, has made significant strides in promoting women’s empowerment and peace in Bauchi State.

Adamu pointed out that the Beijing declaration and Platform for Action, adopted by the United Nations in 1995, emphasizes the importance of women’s participation in decision-making processes and peacebuilding efforts.

Esther Patrick, representing the Women Mediation Network, highlighted the achievements of the group, including training over 100 women in conflict resolution and mediation.

“We believe that women play a critical role in maintaining peace and stability in our communities.

“We will continue to work with the Bauchi State Government to ensure that women’s voices are heard and their rights are protected,”Patrick said.
