Borno Chief Judge swears in 21 Sharia Court judges

The Borno State Chief Judge, Justice Kashim Zannah, has sworn in 21 Sharia Court Judges in the state.
Inaugurating the Judges on Tuesday, in Maiduguri at the Musa Usman Secretariat complex, Zannah charged them to be firm and just while discharging their duties.
“Your responsibilities to dispense justice without fear or favour should be in line and according to your respective oaths of office,” he said.
He added that they are to conduct their affairs within the ambit of the law and the oath of office that was administered to them.

Continuing, he said: “Each of you coming in on merit and not by any influence or favour, should have no difficulty in believing us.”
He warned that Judges will not “under any condition or excuses” tolerate corruption or graft in society.
Instead, he declared: “We punish it with dismissal or disgrace and that is the only punishment for corruption, not demotion or transfer,” stressing that judges have no choice but to appoint when they pass exams.
He, therefore, urged the new judges to be firm and just in the discharge of their duties as in line with their oath of office.
On their postings, he said: “All of you were informed of the conditions that you will be posted anywhere in the State,” noting that as peace is being restored; the State government will provide facilities to discharge their duties.
He also urged the local authorities through the instrumentalities of the State government to enable the Judges to cultivate farmlands to achieve national food security and job creation.
