Yobe State Governor, Mai Mala Buni, and Nigerian businessman Aliko Dangote have fulfilled their promise to provide shares in the Dangote Petroleum Refinery to 43,928 vulnerable women across the 17 local government areas of the state.
The initiative followed an engagement between the Secretary to the Yobe State Government, Dr Mohammed Goje, and Dangote during the 81st United Nations General Assembly (UNGA 81) in the United States, where they discussed ways to enable low-income earners to benefit from share ownership in the refinery.
The beneficiaries include widows, orphans, economically disadvantaged women and families affected by the Boko Haram insurgency.
The initiative, announced by Governor Buni at the UN General Assembly, is aimed at providing the women with an opportunity to participate in economic activities beyond temporary assistance.
Through the share ownership initiative, the beneficiaries are expected to have an opportunity to benefit from investment in the refinery and potentially strengthen their financial security.
The development marks a step towards expanding economic opportunities for vulnerable women in Yobe State, with the initiative expected to support their long-term financial well-being and that of their families.
