The Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Gwabin Musa, has continued his series of consultations with key stakeholders in the country by paying courtesy visits to the Minister of Petroleum, Senator Heineken Lokpobiri, and the Minister of Justice, Mr. Lateef Fagbemi SAN. The purpose of the visits was to strengthen ties with these ministries as critical stakeholders in Nigeria.
During his visit to the Ministry of Petroleum, General Musa pledged ongoing partnership with the ministry to address issues such as oil theft, pipeline vandalization, illegal refineries, and other forms of economic sabotage perpetrated by criminal elements. He emphasized the importance of protecting national assets, stating that “our national assets must be well protected; if that is done, oil production will rise, and the economy will improve.”
General Musa further assured the ministry of the full support of the Armed Forces of Nigeria (AFN) in maximizing the country’s profit from its natural resources. He guaranteed that the Defence Headquarters (DHQ) would provide maximum security to oil facilities across the country.
In response, Minister Lokpobiri expressed gratitude to the CDS for the visit and offered to collaborate more closely with the DHQ to reduce economic sabotage affecting the nation’s economy. He promised to provide all necessary support to the DHQ to protect critical oil facilities and enhance oil production.
At the Ministry of Justice, the CDS acknowledged the commendable achievements of the Attorney General and Minister of Justice. He called for increased assistance from the ministry in protecting the human rights of troops while carrying out their duties. In turn, the minister thanked the CDS and pledged to provide all necessary legal support to the AFN in fulfilling its constitutional roles.
