In a bid to ensure the successful hosting of the Africa Military Games (AMGA) 2024, Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General Christopher Gwabin Musa OFR paid a courtesy visit to the Honourable Minister of Sports, Senator John Owan Enoh, today.
The meeting aimed at fostering collaboration and support for the highly anticipated event scheduled to take place in Abuja from November 5-18, 2024.
During the visit, General Musa emphasized the necessity of the Sports Ministry’s involvement, stating, “The event will not be complete without the support of the Sports Ministry.”
He congratulated Senator Enoh on his one-year anniversary in office and highlighted the numerous benefits the AMGA would bring to Nigeria, including fostering cooperation, brotherhood, and unity among African military personnel.
Senator Enoh expressed his gratitude for the visit and recognized the significant impact of hosting the AMGA.
“Hosting this event is a major plus for both the military and the nation. It will bring substantial infrastructural development and mutual cooperation,” he said.
He assured the CDS of the Ministry’s commitment to collaborate with the Defence Headquarters (DHQ) and requested detailed information on the Armed Forces’ requirements to ensure a seamless event.
The AMGA, which was first held 24 years ago in Kenya, marks a historic occasion for Nigeria as it prepares to host the second edition of the games. The event will feature 19 sporting competitions with participation from over 54 African countries. Several nations have already expressed their interest in attending the games.
General Musa was accompanied by the Director of Sports at DHQ, Air Vice Marshal Abidemi Marquis, and other senior officers.
The meeting underscored the collaborative efforts needed to host a successful AMGA 2024, promising a remarkable showcase of African military prowess and camaraderie.
