A Lagos-based cleric, Pastor Gideon Oyedepo of the Cherubim and Seraphim Bible Ministries, has issued a strong appeal to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Federal Government to intervene and halt the controversial “Sexathon” event reportedly planned for Ikorodu, Lagos, as part of a Guinness World Record attempt.

The proposed event, promoted by social media personality Mandy Kiss, has stirred outrage across religious and cultural circles, with many describing it as a moral affront to Nigeria’s values.

In an open letter titled “Please Guard the Soul of Nigeria”, Pastor Oyedepo called on the government to reprimand the entertainer and place her under mental rehabilitation, warning that failure to act could have grave spiritual and societal consequences.

“Moral decline invites national collapse”

Quoting extensively from the Bible, the cleric argued that Nigeria’s progress and stability depend on its moral and spiritual standing before God, not on adopting what he called “fleeting, ungodly global trends.”

“History and Scripture are clear: nations that abandon God’s foundational principles for idolatry and immoral practices invite judgment and set themselves on a path to collapse,” he said, citing examples of ancient Israel, Egypt, and Babylon.

He described the sex marathon as part of the destructive “spirit of the age” identified in the New Testament — characterized by self-love, rebellion, and moral confusion — which he warned could erode Nigeria’s values if left unchecked.

Call on government to protect the nation’s soul

Pastor Oyedepo urged President Tinubu to use his office to “guard the nation’s soul” by rejecting ideologies that promote rebellion against God and undermine family, dignity, and righteousness.

“The government holds a unique responsibility to protect Nigeria’s moral fabric from corrosive foreign influences,” he stressed. “The future flourishing and destiny of the nation depend on obedience to God’s eternal laws, not the imported ‘spirit of the times.’”

He advised the government to prioritize policies and cultural protections rooted in justice, integrity, and biblical wisdom, warning that the normalization of events like the proposed “Sexathon” could accelerate societal turmoil and spiritual decline.

Background

The controversy began after reports surfaced that Mandy Kiss, a Nigerian content creator, had announced plans to engage in sexual activity with 100 men in 24 hours as part of a Guinness World Record attempt. The announcement sparked widespread backlash on social media, with many Nigerians questioning both the morality and legality of the event.

So far, neither Guinness World Records nor relevant Nigerian authorities have confirmed any endorsement of the planned marathon.

Pastor Oyedepo’s statement adds to growing voices calling on the government to step in and stop the event before it takes place.
