The ultra-fast network was developed through a collaboration between China Unicom and Huawei, and is powered by 50G Passive Optical Network (PON) technology, a next-generation fiber-optic system designed to deliver dramatically higher speeds and lower latency.

Initial testing conducted in Sunan County, Hebei Province, recorded download speeds reaching 9,834 Mbps, upload speeds of 1,008 Mbps, and latency as low as 3 milliseconds. These performance levels far exceed current commercial broadband standards and place China at the forefront of high-speed internet deployment.

The 10G broadband network is designed to support data-intensive and emerging technologies such as 8K ultra-high-definition video streaming, virtual and augmented reality applications, cloud computing, smart cities, telemedicine, and advanced industrial automation.

Experts say the rollout represents a significant step toward future digital economies, enabling faster data transmission, real-time responsiveness, and greater network stability. While the initial deployment is localized, it is expected to serve as a foundation for broader expansion across the country.

The launch underscores China’s push to lead in next-generation communication technologies and sets a new benchmark for global broadband infrastructure.
