COAS Commissions NAWLG Luxury Estate in Lagos, Urges Soldiers to Plan for Retirement

The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, has commissioned the Nigerian Army Welfare Limited by Guarantee (NAWLG) Luxury Estate in Yaba, Lagos, describing it as a major step towards promoting home ownership, investment opportunities and the long-term welfare of military personnel.

The commissioning took place on Wednesday, October 28, 2026. General Shaibu said the estate goes beyond providing quality housing, as it offers serving and retired personnel, as well as civilian investors, an opportunity to invest in property and secure their financial future.

He noted that the demands of military service, including frequent postings and operational deployments, often make it difficult for personnel to establish permanent family homes. He added that inadequate accommodation could also make the transition to retirement challenging.

The COAS commended officers who invested in the estate and urged other personnel to embrace prudent financial planning and prepare early for life after service, stressing that home ownership provides stability and independence from service-related accommodation.

He also praised the estate’s mixed ownership structure, which allows military personnel and civilians to live in the same community. According to him, the project is not intended to create another barracks but a modern and commercially sustainable community that promotes social integration and strengthens civil-military relations.

General Shaibu said the project aligns with his Command Philosophy, particularly the pillar of Sound Administration, and supports his Soldier First Concept, which links personnel welfare and motivation to institutional effectiveness.

While reaffirming the Nigerian Army’s commitment to providing accommodation for serving personnel, he emphasised the importance of personal investments in securing their future.

He charged the management of NAWLG to maintain transparency, accountability, sound financial management and compliance with commercial and regulatory standards to protect the interests of subscribers.

The COAS expressed appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, for his strategic guidance and support to the Nigerian Army. He also commended the leadership of NAWLG, developers, consultants and investors for bringing the project to completion.

He congratulated the homeowners and expressed hope that the estate would remain a place of comfort, peace and harmonious coexistence.
