Comoros have secured a place in the second round of the African qualifiers for the 2028 Olympic Games women’s football tournament after recording a remarkable 30-0 aggregate victory over Sudan.
The Coelacanths produced a dominant display across both legs, defeating Sudan 17-0 in the first leg on June 3 before completing the job with a 13-0 win in the return fixture on June 8.
In the opening encounter, Comoros took the lead after just eight minutes and never looked back, with nine different players finding the back of the net in a ruthless attacking performance that exposed Sudan’s defensive weaknesses.
The second leg followed a similar pattern, as Comoros scored three goals in the first half before adding 10 more after the break to seal a comprehensive 13-0 victory and progress to the next stage with a staggering 30-0 aggregate scoreline.
Their reward is a high-profile clash against Nigeria’s Super Falcons, the most successful women’s national team in Africa and reigning continental champions.
The Super Falcons, coached by Justine Madugu, head into the qualifiers in strong form. Nigeria recently completed a double victory over Senegal in international friendlies, winning 2-1 in the first match before securing a convincing 3-0 triumph at the Remo Stars Stadium on Monday night.
The second-round qualifiers between Nigeria and Comoros are scheduled to take place between October 5 and October 13, 2026.
The qualification campaign will determine Africa’s representatives at the women’s football event of the 2028 Summer Olympics in the United States, with only two African teams earning spots at the Games.
While Comoros arrive with confidence after their record-breaking victories over Sudan, they face a formidable test against the Super Falcons, who are widely regarded as favourites to advance to the next stage of the qualification race.
