Court Remands Woman in Benue Over Alleged Human Trafficking of 13 Girls
A Chief Magistrate’s Court in Makurdi, Benue State, has ordered the remand of Christiana Tengu Tsavkaha, also known as Christiana Angle, over allegations of human trafficking.
Tsavkaha was brought before the court by the police on charges bordering on conspiracy and human trafficking. Following the proceedings, the Chief Magistrate ordered that she be remanded at the Yaikyor Correctional Centre pending further proceedings.
The court adjourned the case until October 29, 2026, for further mention.
Benue-based activist Zege Orkwande, who disclosed the development in a Facebook post on Tuesday, August 11, said the suspect was arrested following an extended search by security authorities.
According to accounts attributed to alleged victims, Tsavkaha is accused of trafficking 13 girls to Ghana for prostitution. The allegations, however, remain subject to judicial determination.
Orkwande said the arrest and court proceedings marked a significant development in efforts to ensure accountability in the case and protect potential victims of human trafficking.
The development has renewed calls for stronger action against human trafficking, particularly the exploitation and trafficking of young girls across international borders.
Authorities and relevant agencies are expected to continue investigations into the allegations, including efforts to establish the circumstances surrounding the alleged trafficking and identify any other individuals who may have been involved.
The accused is presumed innocent until proven guilty by a court of law.
