Obajana, Kogi State – Dangote Cement Plc has restated its commitment to youth empowerment as it joined the global community to celebrate International Youth Day at its Obajana plant.
Speaking on behalf of the Plant Director, Nawabuddin Azad, the General Manager, Social Performance, Ademola Adeyemi, said the company’s policies align with the UN’s ideals of enabling youths to drive social and economic development.
Azad, who spoke on the theme “Local Youth Action on SDG and Beyond,” highlighted recent empowerment schemes for host community youths in poultry farming, solar entrepreneurship, fashion design, and other vocational skills.
“At our plant, we believe in shared value where business success goes together with social progress. We are committed to initiatives that empower youths, uplift communities, and promote sustainability,” he said.
Chief General Manager and Head of Production, John Gwong, described the youth as Nigeria’s greatest asset. “Their creativity, energy, and innovation are vital for the nation’s future. We see them not only as tomorrow’s leaders but also as today’s contributors to our growth,” he said.
Head of Human Resources, Azeez Adeniyi, stressed the importance of discipline, integrity, and hard work in shaping future leaders. He noted that youths form the backbone of Nigeria’s workforce, adding that their values directly affect industry productivity.

Also speaking, Wale Adedeji, Head of Technical at Dangote Academy, urged young Nigerians to embrace technology and innovation. He said adaptability and problem-solving remain crucial in a changing global economy.
Dangote Cement highlighted its graduate trainee scheme, internship opportunities, and community projects that have equipped hundreds of youths with skills for self-reliance and strengthened its workforce pipeline.
The ceremony ended with a call on Nigerian youths to pursue lifelong learning and positive values, while stakeholders were urged to sustain mentoring and empowerment efforts.
