Dangote Partners Honeywell to Boost Refinery Capacity to 1.4 Million Barrels Per Day by 2028

The Dangote Group has announced a strategic collaboration with Honeywell to upgrade the Dangote Refinery’s output capacity to 1.4 million barrels per day (bpd) by 2028, marking a major step toward strengthening Nigeria’s energy security and global refining presence.

Under the partnership, the refinery will adopt Honeywell’s advanced technologies to process multiple crude grades efficiently while expanding its petrochemical capabilities—particularly in polypropylene production.

According to the company, Dangote aims to achieve an annual output of 2.4 million metric tons of polypropylene, positioning Nigeria as a significant player in the global petrochemicals market.

The refinery, already recognised as Africa’s largest and the world’s biggest single-train refinery, is designed to meet Nigeria’s domestic petroleum and petrochemical needs while exporting surplus products to international markets.

Officials say the upgrade aligns with the company’s long-term vision of maximising value, increasing operational flexibility, and contributing to Nigeria’s industrial growth.
