Defence Minister Commends Newly Promoted Generals for Their Invaluable Contributions to National Security

In a resounding call to action, the Minister of State for Defence, Dr. Bello Matawalle, has urged the recently promoted senior officers of the Nigerian Army to showcase exemplary leadership and escalate their efforts in addressing security challenges, particularly in the North West and other volatile regions of the country.

Speaking at the investiture ceremony, where 47 Brigadier Generals were elevated to the rank of Major General, Dr. Matawalle emphasised the significance of their promotion, stating that it reflects their courage, dedication to duty, and hard work. He commended their diligence, professional conduct, and selfless sacrifices, noting that their contribution to the Nigerian Army is invaluable.

Addressing the newly promoted officers, the Defence Minister stressed the importance of leading by example, inspiring subordinates, and fostering collaboration with other security agencies to overcome prevailing security challenges. He highlighted the rigorous selection process, underscoring the exceptional leadership skills and strategic thinking demonstrated by the officers throughout their careers.

Dr. Matawalle, on behalf of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, congratulated the senior officers, assuring them of the Federal Government’s commitment to adequate welfare interventions and continued support for the Armed Forces of Nigeria.

The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja, also extended his felicitations to the newly promoted officers. Recognising their competencies, diligence, and loyalty, Gen. Lagbaja appreciated the families of the elevated officers for their understanding and support amid the challenges of military service.

The dignitaries present at the ceremony included the Governors of Edo and Taraba State, the Chairman Senate Committee on Army, the Honourable Minister on Budget and National Planning, the Honourable Minister of Foreign Affairs, the National Security Adviser, the Chief of Defence Staff, the Chief of Naval Staff, and other high-ranking officials from various security and para-military services.
