Digital Governance Triumph: Gombe State Sweeps Prestigious Awards

Gombe State was a shining star at the recent awards ceremony hosted by the Bureau for Public Reforms (BPR) under the Presidency. The state garnered three prestigious accolades, showcasing its exceptional strides in technology and digital innovations.

The Gombe Geographic Information System (GOGIS) clinched the esteemed title of “Best State in Geographic Information System.” Dr Kabiru Usman Hassan, the Director-General of GOGIS, was also recognized with the “Distinguished GovTech Trailblazer’s Award” for his remarkable contributions to the field.

Gombe State Due Process Office also secured the award for the best State MDA in innovative Digital Services. The Director-General, Babayola Mohammed Isa, was similarly lauded with the “Distinguished GovTech Trailblazers’ Award” for his exemplary leadership in advancing GovTech initiatives and digital governance.

Similarly, Gombe State University (GSU) was crowned the best State University in Website Operation, underscoring its unwavering dedication to digital excellence. The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Aliyu Usman El-nafaty, received the “Distinguished Trailblazer’s Award” for his significant role in advancing Digital Governance in the education sector.

Speaking at the ceremony, Dr Dasuki Ibrahim Arabi, Director General of the Bureau for Public Service Reforms, praised Gombe State’s historic achievements in technology and digital innovation, hailing it as one of Nigeria’s fastest-growing digital economies.

Dr Arabi revealed that the award process was confidential, with agencies unaware they were being considered. The nominations and online voting were conducted nationwide through various media channels, aimed at honoring and motivating those who employ technology for the enhancement of public services and digital governance.

Expressing their gratitude, Dr Kabiru Usman Hassan and Babayola Mohammed Isa thanked Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya for his unwavering support and investment in digital governance and economy.

The ceremony was graced by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Sen. George Akume, who was represented by the Permanent Secretary, OSGF, Retired Federal Permanent Secretary, Dr Ibrahim Jalo Daudu, Director-General, NASREA, Prof. Aliyu Jauro, an esteemed figure from Gombe who was also honoured at the event, along with other distinguished guests.
