Domestic Worker Arrested Over Alleged Double Murder in Bangladesh

Residents of the Mohammadpur area in Dhaka have been left in shock following a gruesome double murder involving a domestic worker accused of killing her employer and the woman’s teenage daughter inside their apartment.

Police identified the victims as 48-year-old Laila Afroze and her 15-year-old daughter, Nafisa Nawal, who were found dead in their residence on Shahjahan Road.

According to investigators, the suspect, identified as Ayesha Akhter, had only recently begun working in the household. Authorities say tensions reportedly arose after she was suspected of stealing valuables, including jewellery and electronic items.

Police reports indicate that an argument broke out, during which the suspect allegedly produced a concealed knife and attacked her employer. The teenage daughter, who attempted to intervene, was also fatally stabbed. Both victims sustained multiple injuries, particularly to the neck and upper body.

The bodies were later discovered by the husband and father of the victims, who returned home to find the apartment in disarray. Investigators described a violent scene, with bloodstains across multiple rooms and clear signs of struggle.

A major breakthrough in the case came from CCTV footage obtained from the building, which reportedly showed the suspect entering earlier in the day and leaving less than an hour later. Authorities say she appeared to have changed clothing before exiting and was seen carrying a bag believed to contain stolen items.

Police later recovered two knives suspected to have been used in the attack, while forensic teams collected evidence including blood samples, fingerprints, and DNA to reconstruct the sequence of events.

The suspect was subsequently tracked and arrested in another district. She is currently in police custody undergoing interrogation, with officials indicating that preliminary statements are being verified as part of ongoing investigations.

Authorities say the case remains under active investigation as efforts continue to establish the full circumstances surrounding the tragic incident.
