Speaking in a video shared by Viable TV, Fashola recounted that Tinubu would sometimes “sack” him over minor issues, only to reinstate him minutes later.
According to Fashola, the role of Chief of Staff comes with enormous responsibility, noting that he was usually held accountable whenever anything went wrong within the administration.
“As Chief of Staff to a governor, I felt somewhat like a registrar to a Chief Judge or High Court judge — if anything goes wrong, it is my fault,” he said.
Fashola added that Tinubu repeatedly dismissed him verbally, only to call him back shortly afterward.
“My governor sacked me many times. He would tell me, ‘You have been sacked,’ and then five minutes later I would get a call that, ‘The Governor wants to see you,’” he stated.
The former governor said the experiences taught him resilience and discipline, describing the period as part of the intense leadership training that shaped his public service career.
Fashola later went on to become Lagos State Governor and subsequently served as Minister of Power, Works and Housing, and later as Minister of Works, under President Muhammadu Buhari.
