FCT Police Arrest 70 Suspects After Viral Robbery Video, Victim Identifies Two
The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has arrested 70 suspects following a viral video alleging a robbery incident around Unity Fountain in the Maitama area of Abuja.
The Commissioner of Police, FCT Command, CP Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi, PhD., FCAI, directed an immediate and comprehensive raid of identified criminal blackspots around Unity Fountain and its environs to identify and apprehend persons who may be connected to the incident.
Acting on the directive, police operatives from the Maitama Division conducted coordinated raids on identified criminal flashpoints, resulting in the arrest of 70 suspects.
Following preliminary screening and due process, 30 suspects were screened and released, while 40 others were retained in custody for further investigation.
During the investigation, the victim positively identified two of the suspects as persons he recognised from the alleged robbery incident.
The two identified suspects, alongside other persons retained in custody, remain under investigation as the Command intensifies efforts to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident and identify any other persons who may be connected to the offence.
The FCT Police Command, through its Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, ANIPR, MIPRA, urged residents to remain security-conscious and promptly report suspicious persons, movements or activities to the nearest police station.
