FCT Police Foil Kidnap Attempt in Bwari, Neutralize Two Suspects, Lose One Officer

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has foiled a major kidnapping attempt in Guto Village, a border community in Bwari Area Council, in the early hours of Wednesday, 20 November 2025.

According to the Command, a distress call was received at about 01:10 a.m. alerting operatives that about thirty armed criminals had stormed the community with the intention of abducting a resident and members of his family.

In a rapid and coordinated operation, officers from the Bwari Division’s Surveillance Team and the IGP Special Intervention Squad (SIS) were immediately deployed to the area. On sighting the arriving Police teams, the attackers—who had already attempted to forcefully enter the targeted home—opened fire.

The officers responded with superior firepower, engaging the armed gang in a fierce gun duel. Two of the suspected kidnappers were neutralized during the exchange, while the rest escaped into nearby bushes and the surrounding mountainous terrain.

Sadly, one Police officer sustained a fatal gunshot injury. He was rushed to Bwari General Hospital but was confirmed dead by medical personnel. The Command has expressed deep regret over the loss.

Commissioner of Police, FCT Command, CP Miller G. Dantawaye, psc, hailed the bravery and swift action of the responding officers, describing their conduct as “exceptional gallantry and professionalism.” He extended heartfelt condolences to the family and colleagues of the fallen officer, whom he praised as a hero who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty.
