Suspected members of the Islamic State West African Province (ISWAP) have launched an attack on a police formation in Geidam Local Government Area of Yobe State, resulting in the death of a police officer.

The incident occurred late Tuesday night when the insurgents stormed the area and opened fire on the security post. The officers on duty reportedly engaged the attackers in a brief gun duel, but the heavily armed terrorists overpowered the formation, leading to the fatal shooting of one personnel.

Sources in the area said the attackers arrived on motorcycles and retreated into the surrounding bush after the assault. The attack caused panic among residents, many of whom remained indoors throughout the night.
