Federal Government Celebrates Nigerian Women in Diplomacy

The Federal Government has celebrated the achievements of Nigerian women who are breaking barriers and making significant contributions to diplomacy and international relations.

In a statement marking the International Day of Women in Diplomacy, the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, commended Nigerian women serving in diplomatic roles across the world for their outstanding service and dedication to advancing Nigeria’s interests.

According to the minister, Nigerian women have continued to distinguish themselves on the global stage, playing key roles in international organisations, regional institutions, and diplomatic missions. She noted that from the United Nations to the Economic Community of West African States and Nigeria’s foreign missions abroad, women diplomats are helping to shape foreign policy, promote peace, and strengthen international cooperation.

Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu said Nigerian women have consistently embodied excellence through their contributions to trade negotiations, peacebuilding initiatives, and efforts aimed at achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

She stressed that Nigeria’s foreign policy becomes stronger and more effective when the talents, expertise, and leadership of women are fully harnessed.

The minister also called for increased mentorship, support, and equal opportunities for the next generation of female diplomats, emphasizing the need to create an environment where more women can thrive and contribute to national development through diplomacy.

She further extended her best wishes to Nigerian women and women diplomats around the world on the occasion of the International Day of Women in Diplomacy, applauding their resilience, professionalism, and commitment to public service.
