FG Renames UniAbuja After Yakubu Gowon

The Federal Government has announced the renaming of the University of Abuja (UniAbuja) to Yakubu Gowon University in honour of Nigeria’s former Head of State, General Yakubu Gowon (rtd), who recently marked his 90th birthday.
Minister of Information, Mohammed Idris, disclosed the decision on Monday while briefing State House correspondents after the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting chaired by President Bola Tinubu.
Idris noted, “The proposal will be forwarded to the National Assembly for formal approval.”
The renaming underscores the government’s recognition of Gowon’s contributions to Nigeria’s unity and development.
