Beneficiaries of Dangote Cement Plc’s empowerment schemes in Obajana have shared inspiring stories of how the company’s social programs have reshaped their lives, lifting them from economic uncertainty to financial stability.
For Mr. Oluwafisayo Obanla, the opportunity to receive training and support in poultry farming was life-changing. Equipped with 50 Point-Of-Lay birds by the company, he has since expanded his business to include 150 broilers, securing a steady income through daily egg sales. Beyond personal success, Obanla highlighted how the initiative has had a ripple effect, enabling beneficiaries to employ family and community members.
Similarly, Mrs. Berida Omaleke Ruth from Apata Community abandoned her job search after university when poultry farming—thanks to Dangote’s support—became a thriving business. “Even with the high turnout of eggs, I still struggle to meet customer demand,” she said.
The impact of the scheme extends beyond agriculture. Mrs. Dupe Sani from Iwaa Community fulfilled her lifelong dream of becoming a fashion designer through Dangote’s training. “Since graduating, I have bought four sewing machines and now train four apprentices,” she shared.
Mrs. Bunmi Joseph from Oyo Community also expressed gratitude, emphasizing how the initiative transformed her into an employer of labor. “Like Dangote, I am also an employer,” she proudly stated.
Dangote Cement’s investment in vocational training is not new. Two years ago, the company trained and graduated 40 women in fashion design, reinforcing its commitment to self-sufficiency and economic empowerment within host communities.
