Gombe Specialist Hospital obtains accreditation for postgraduate training in Obstetrics, Gynecology, others

The West African College of Surgeons and the National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria have accredited the Specialist Hospital Gombe for postgraduate training in obstetrics/gynaecology and family medicine.

The Gombe Specialist Hospital is currently the first state-owned hospital in the northeast to reach this milestone as a result of this development.

The officials from the two institutions were awestruck by what they saw in the hospital and praised Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya for providing the cutting-edge facilities and tools required for the training.

They pledged their commitment to working with the government to offer training in other fields to retain and develop experts in Gombe State, the Northeast, and Nigeria as a whole.

Additionally, it will raise service standards and decrease maternal and infant deaths in the state.

It will be recalled that the  State Specialist Hospital in Gombe was visited by an accrediting team from the West African College of Surgeons, led by Professor Jesse Obed, who assessed the hospital’s structures, tranquillity, and facilities as having all the characteristics of a system that is open to progressive improvement.

The absence of essential medical supplies and staff, along with the poor infrastructure, left the majority of the population without access to high-quality healthcare before the inauguration of the current government in 2019.

As a result, Governor Inuwa Yahaya gave plans to improve everyone’s access to effective, high-quality healthcare services a top priority.
