Governor Mutfwang Inaugurates 2027 Campaign Council, Seeks Support for Tinubu’s Re-election

By Comfort Pius, Jos

Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang has inaugurated the All Progressives Congress (APC) Campaign Council for the 2027 general elections, calling on party members to mobilise support for the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the election of other APC candidates across the state.

Mutfwang gave the charge on Monday, November 2, 2026, at the Government House, Rayfield, Jos, during the inauguration of the campaign council, urging members to conduct a disciplined, peaceful and issue-based campaign ahead of the elections.

The governor also announced plans to deploy at least 800 trained forest guards to vulnerable communities in the coming weeks as part of efforts to strengthen security and facilitate the return of internally displaced persons (IDPs) to their ancestral homes.

He said his administration remained committed to addressing insecurity through sustained and coordinated measures, stressing that restoring peace required patience, professional expertise and collective responsibility.

Mutfwang disclosed that another batch of retrained Operation Rainbow personnel would soon be commissioned to reinforce security operations across the state.

He urged residents to support the government’s efforts to restore peace and ensure that displaced persons could return safely to their communities.

On the 2027 elections, the governor charged members of the campaign council to take the message of the APC-led governments to communities across the state, highlighting their policies, programmes and achievements.

He said the campaign should focus on constructive engagement with voters rather than attacking political opponents.

“There is no government that ends everything. Every government is a relay. Our duty is not to make others look bad; it is to see how we can collectively make Plateau State look better,” Mutfwang said.

The governor thanked Plateau residents for their support for his administration, acknowledging that although progress had been recorded in critical sectors, significant challenges remained.

He maintained that his administration required another term to consolidate ongoing projects and programmes, describing development as a continuous process that demanded consistency and sustained commitment.

On the economic challenges facing Nigerians, Mutfwang acknowledged the hardship associated with ongoing economic adjustments but defended the reforms introduced by the Tinubu administration, arguing that the country needed time to overcome longstanding fiscal and structural challenges.

He cited improvements in foreign reserves and fuel availability as indicators of progress and urged Nigerians to consider the economic circumstances inherited by the Federal Government in 2023.

The governor also highlighted measures introduced by his administration to cushion the effects of economic hardship in Plateau State.

These, he said, included the introduction of Tin City Metro buses, the revival of rail services within the metropolis, a 50 per cent reduction in tuition fees for students in state-owned tertiary institutions and a 300 per cent increase in student allowances.

He further cited federal student loan and scholarship interventions as additional sources of financial support for Plateau indigenes studying in universities.

Emphasising the importance of party unity and grassroots mobilisation, Mutfwang urged APC candidates and stakeholders to bridge political divisions, demonstrate humility and work collectively towards the party’s success at all levels.

He noted that electoral victories depended largely on effective mobilisation at the grassroots, urging campaign council members to return to their wards, constituencies and local government areas to engage voters.

“The votes are in the polling unit. They are not in Jos. Everybody can only matter in the locality where you come from,” he said.

The governor reiterated his commitment to peaceful political engagement, urging party members to campaign with honesty, humility and respect for opposing political interests.

Earlier, the Director-General of the Mutfwang/Piyo 2027 Governorship Campaign Council, Sir Joseph N. Ari, KSM, KSS, OON, expressed appreciation to the governor for the confidence reposed in him and other members of the council.

Ari pledged that the campaign would be factual, issue-based and peaceful, assuring that the council would operate with discipline, teamwork, effective organisation and a strong sense of responsibility.

He commended the governor’s “Time Is Now” policy direction, particularly its emphasis on unity, mutual respect and development, describing peaceful coexistence as essential to sustainable progress in Plateau State.

The campaign director-general disclosed that the council had received expressions of support from 115 support groups, alongside solidarity visits and assurances from traditional rulers, religious leaders, women, youths and other organised groups.

He said the support reflected growing interest in the political project but stressed that achieving the council’s objectives would require collective effort, strategic coordination and sustained engagement with communities across the state.

Ari also called on party faithful and Plateau residents to turn out en masse on November 14, 2026, to welcome President Tinubu, Vice President Kashim Shettima, APC National Chairman Professor Nentawe Yilwatda and other national party leaders during their scheduled visit to the state.

In his remarks, the Plateau State APC Chairman, Hon. Rufus Bature, described the inauguration as an important step towards establishing a coordinated campaign structure ahead of the 2027 elections.

Bature urged members of the council to demonstrate loyalty, accountability and commitment to grassroots mobilisation, noting that the party’s electoral prospects would depend on the strength of its structures and the dedication of its members across polling units.

He added that the party remained open to accommodating more stakeholders as preparations for the elections progressed.
