INEC Extends Deadline for 2027 Governorship, Assembly Candidates’ Submission
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has extended the deadline for political parties to submit the lists of candidates for the Governorship and State Houses of Assembly elections scheduled for the 2027 General Election.
In a statement, INEC said the deadline for parties to upload their candidates’ lists on the dedicated online portal, which was originally scheduled to close on Saturday, August 8, 2026, has now been extended to Tuesday, August 11, 2026.
The Commission said the extension followed appeals from political parties requesting additional time to complete the submission process.
PVC Download Deadline for Osun Voters
INEC also reminded voters in Osun State who applied for replacement of lost, damaged or defaced Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) that the deadline for downloading their replacement PVCs will expire at midnight on Sunday, August 9, 2026.
The Commission explained that the deadline would enable it to compile final statistics on downloaded PVCs ahead of the Osun State Governorship Election scheduled for August 15, 2026.
INEC recalled that PVC collection in Osun commenced at the Registration Area level from July 22 to July 28, 2026, but was extended to July 31 following complaints about large crowds and difficulties encountered by voters at collection centres.
Collection subsequently moved to the Local Government Area level from August 1 to August 7, 2026.
Stolen PVCs Replaced
The electoral commission further disclosed that replacement downloadable PVCs have been made available to voters in Odo-Otin and Ife Central Local Government Areas, following the theft of cards when hoodlums invaded two collection centres.
INEC stressed that the stolen PVCs cannot be used to vote, assuring affected voters that replacement cards have been provided.
The Commission reaffirmed its commitment to conducting a free, fair, credible and inclusive governorship election in Osun State on August 15, 2026, while urging voters and political stakeholders to comply with the established electoral guidelines.
