Interior Minister Visits Niger Over Deaths of Miners in NSCDC Custody
The Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, has described the recent deaths of miners in the custody of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Niger State as deeply regrettable and unfortunate.
Tunji-Ojo made the remarks when he led a Federal Government delegation to commiserate with the government and people of Niger State over the incident.
The Minister disclosed that the NSCDC Commandant in Niger State had been suspended, while investigations are ongoing to determine the circumstances surrounding the deaths.
He assured the people of the state that appropriate measures would be implemented to prevent a recurrence of the incident.
Tunji-Ojo also commended the Niger State Government for the maturity it demonstrated in managing the situation, stressing the Federal Government’s commitment to ensuring that the circumstances surrounding the incident are thoroughly investigated.
Receiving the delegation, Niger State Governor, Umar Bago, thanked the Minister for the visit and expressed the state government’s readiness to cooperate fully with the Federal Government and relevant authorities in uncovering the circumstances that led to the unfortunate incident.
