As the entire world marks the 2024 edition of the International Women’s Day, a Non-Governmental Organisation in Osun State, Women Effect Foundation, has called for more investment in the female gender for a better society.
The Foundation also called for gender equality to be entrenched in every aspect of human life as more women are now better equipped to handle leadership positions and deliver effectively.
At a special programme to mark the International Women’s Day, members of the Women Effect Foundation led by their president, Lady Caroline Abiona trooped out in their numbers at the programme held in Osogbo.
The women all came together in one voice to echo the need for women to be carried along in governance for a better society.
In a lecture, Guest lecturer at the event, Lady Busola Adebusuyi described the family as the brick to build the world which is in the hands women for them to use very well.
She called on women to take advantage of the great tool in their hands which is their families to make the world a better place, urging mothers to help young girls identify their potentials and help it manifest.
According to her, “Women should begin to realise that there are a lot of potentials in them which is why a lot of men today feel threatened by the female gender.
“Women should begin to realise that there is something about them that touches the heart of God in a powerful way but they just have to realise it and make use of it to their advantage”. She stated.
Speaking on gender inequality, Lady Adebusuyi explained that women should first take the bull by the horn by way of developing themselves mentally and intellectually to be valuable in the society.
In a goodwill message, Public Affairs Commentator, Citizen Lola Weighs urged women to be better behaved in the society so as to get the desired recognition and be better placed.
While urging parents to train the girl child better on morals and values, Citizen Lola charged women to face the society with more boldness and courage to succeed in a society that is male dominated.
In her opening remarks, President of the Women Effect Foundation, Osun State, Lady Caroline Abiona, charged governments all over the world to always consider women in sensitive positions for better results.
Speaking on the plans of the Women Effect Foundation, Lady Abiona said they will work with regional partners and Civil Society stakeholders to understand the socio-economic, systemic and political barriers that negatively impact gender inequality.
