JAMB Registrar Projects 1.94 Million Candidates for 2024 Examinations

By Matthew Eloyi

The Registrar of the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Prof Ishaq Oloyede, has revealed that approximately 1.94 million candidates are expected to sit for the 2024 examinations across the country.

Speaking on Wednesday in Kaduna during an inspection of Computer Based Test (CBT) centres amidst the ongoing JAMB examinations, Oloyede disclosed that after today’s examinations, there would be fewer than 100,000 candidates remaining in Lagos, Benue, and other states.

Oloyede attributed the swift pace of the examination process to JAMB’s improved clearing of candidates and biometric capturing, part of the board’s efforts towards a seamless exercise.

“We have done so many things in the background to make the exercise faster, more efficient and better. We have increased the level of automation,” he affirmed.

Expressing disdain for examination malpractice, Oloyede emphasized that cheating does not yield benefits. He identified impersonation as a major challenge faced by JAMB, particularly cases involving candidates with double National Identification Numbers (NIN). He pledged to address this issue with the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC).

“We are ahead of the impersonators. We have arrested a father writing examinations for his son. Such parenting in this generation is uncalled for,” Oloyede remarked.

He commended parents for their cooperation, noting a significant decrease in disturbances around examination centres compared to previous years. Oloyede underscored the importance of candidates adhering to examination schedules, particularly in cases of session failures, ensuring a fair and orderly process for all.
