Justice for Greatness: YALI debunks PUNCH’s claims on CCTV footages
By Jennifer S. Kuwanta
The Coordinator YALI Abuja, Ms Moyosoluwa Oladayo has debunked the news publication made by Punch Newspaper, alleging that YALI Abuja had been to Maitama General Hospital to see the CCTV footage relating to the death of Greatness Olorunfemi.
In a statement released by YALI on Tuesday in Abuja, Oladayo described the news as false and also advised against fake news being peddled around.
The statement reads: “We have been studying recent developments on Greatness Olorunfemi, especially things being put out in the media and we take great exception to some falsehood being peddled around.
“We have read with great disappointment a publication on Punch Newspaper quoting one Daniel Afolabi of CIPM that one Dr. Imuentinyan Igbinovia “confirmed” that YALI Abuja had been to Maitama general hospital to see the CCTV footage.
“This spurious allegation is hereby being rebutted and we ask the media and public to see the story as a pack of lies. For the avoidance of doubt, we have never been invited by Maitama general hospital to see the CCTV footage. We have never been there either as individuals or an organization.
“Our position has been clear from inception . We seek thorough, transparent and independent investigation on the death of Greatness Olorunfemi. We also seek justice for those whose precious lives have been cut short by these One Chance criminals.
“And this can only be done when the perpetrators of this crime on the 26th of September, 2023 are brought to book. We are also unequivocally seeking extensive policy reforms in our transportation and health sectors while hoping to play our integral role in helping to nip this niggling security issues in the bud. A better Nigeria is what we all need.
“YALI Abuja appreciate the Nigerian Police and other agencies who have been working with us and other concerned parties to unravel the true report of this case. We also want to encourage anyone who has credible information to give to the Police to approach them.
“The allegation that the YALI Network Abuja Community and by extension YALI Network Nigeria Community has been to Maitama general hospital is not only false but capable of thwarting the entire investigation currently being carried out by the consistuted authority.
“We call on the management of Maitama general hospital, Vice President of CIPM Abuja and other parties who cooked up this travesty to retract it or we may consider some serious legal action.
“YALI Abuja was never at any time invited or present in Maitama general hospital. We have never at any time discussed or had any engagement with the management or representative of the Maitama general hospital.
“At the end, we hope that justice prevails and a better Nigerian system emerges.” The group said.
Recall that YALI lost one of its members’ Ms. Greatness Olorunfemi to one chance syndicates who reportedly pushed her out of a moving vehicle along the Maitama-Kubwa arterial highway, Abuja on Tuesday, the 26th of September 2023.
It was also alleged that she was neglected by the Maitama General Hospital, which lead to her untimely death.
