Kano Court Sentences Tomato Seller to Death by Hanging Over Kidnapping, Murder

A Kano State High Court sitting in Bompai has sentenced a tomato seller, Abdulaziz Adamu, to death by hanging after finding him guilty of conspiracy, kidnapping for ransom, and murder.

Adamu was arraigned alongside another suspect, Abdullahi Alasan (popularly known as Dan Mama), but the court discharged and acquitted the second defendant due to lack of evidence linking him to the crimes.

Delivering the judgment on Thursday, December 11, Justice Aisha Mahmoud of Court 24 held that the prosecution successfully established its case against Adamu beyond reasonable doubt. She noted that the evidence presented was compelling enough to warrant the maximum punishment.

The case originated from a shocking incident in Dawakin Kudu Local Government Area, where the bodies of several individuals—who had been missing for an extended period—were discovered inside the convict’s residence. The gruesome find sent shockwaves across Dawakin Kudu, leaving residents in fear and disbelief.

While Adamu now faces the death penalty, the acquittal of Alasan marks a dramatic final twist in a case that gripped the community with its disturbing revelations.
