Officials of the Hisbah Board said the arrests were made during routine patrols aimed at ensuring compliance with Islamic regulations observed during the holy month. Ramadan is a period of fasting for Muslims from dawn to sunset, and public eating is considered a violation of religious norms in the state.
According to authorities, those apprehended were taken into custody for questioning and are expected to face appropriate sanctions in line with the state’s Sharia guidelines.
Kano State operates a Sharia-based legal system alongside Nigeria’s conventional legal framework, with Hisbah responsible for enforcing moral and religious standards among Muslims.
The development has sparked conversations around religious observance, personal freedom, and the enforcement of faith-based regulations during Ramadan.
