Kano Light Rail Project Set for Take-Off as Governor Yusuf Meets MOFI, Mota-Engil Delegation
Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has received a delegation from the Ministry of Finance Incorporated (MOFI) and Mota-Engil Nigeria ahead of the groundbreaking ceremony for the Kano Light Rail Project, recently approved by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
The delegation, led by the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of MOFI, Dr Armstrong Ume Takang, and the Chairman of Mota-Engil Nigeria, Mr Kola Karim, met with the Governor at the Kano State Governor’s Lodge in Asokoro, Abuja, to brief him on preparations for the commencement of the project.
The ₦1.05 trillion Kano Light Rail Project is expected to transform urban transportation across the state by improving connectivity, easing traffic congestion and stimulating economic activities.
Receiving the delegation, Governor Yusuf reiterated the commitment of the Kano State Government to working closely with the Federal Government, MOFI and the project contractors to ensure the successful and timely delivery of the landmark infrastructure.
The Governor described the project as a strategic investment capable of strengthening Kano’s position as the commercial hub of Northern Nigeria while providing residents with a modern, safe, reliable and efficient mass transit system.
Governor Yusuf expressed appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for approving the project, describing it as a major development that would deliver significant benefits to the people of Kano and contribute to the state’s long-term economic growth.
He also commended the Chairman of the House Committee on Appropriation, Hon. Abubakar Kabir Bichi, for providing the necessary legislative support towards the realisation of the project.
The meeting marks another step towards the commencement of the Kano Light Rail Project, which is expected to have a lasting impact on transportation, commerce and urban development across the state.
