Kuteb Leaders Firmly Reject T.Y. Danjuma as Ukwe of Takum, Warn of Impending Crisis

Jalingo, Taraba State In a press conference held on Thursday, the Kuteb Yatso of Nigeria (KYN), representing the Kuteb people in Taraba State, vehemently rejected the proposed appointment of General T.Y. Danjuma as the next Ukwe of Takum.

The KYN cautioned the state government against jeopardising traditional heritage and creating unrest.

Mr. Emmanuel Ukwen, the National President of KYN, emphasised that while they appreciate General Danjuma’s developmental contributions to the state, traditional stools are sacred and exclusive to the Kuteb people.

He urged the governor to reconsider, warning against a potential crisis if the decision proceeds.

The KYN criticised the governor’s consultation process, stating that the Ukwe Takum Stool is not solely the concern of the Likam and Akenten ruling houses but a matter for the entire Kuteb nation.

They also expressed concern about the governor’s alleged remarks about the demise of Kuteb leaders and the challenges posed by neighbouring ethnic groups.

The KYN called upon traditional rulers in the state to advise the governor wisely, emphasising their role as custodians of tradition and custom. Additionally, they urged security chiefs to prioritise addressing security challenges rather than allowing the governor to potentially incite violence in Takum.

Despite the tensions, the KYN thanked supporters for standing with them and urged Kuteb youths to remain calm and law-abiding amidst the unfolding situation.

The statement concluded with a plea for cautious use of social media to prevent misinformation
