The tour featured visits to formations of the Nigerian Army, Nigerian Navy, Nigerian Air Force, and the Department of State Services office in Ojo. The initiative was designed to expose participants to career opportunities within Nigeria’s security architecture.
The boys also visited Command Day Secondary School, Ikeja Cantonment; TA Lagbaja Cantonment; and NNS Beecroft, where they interacted with officers and gained firsthand insight into military operations, discipline, and leadership culture.
Speaking during the tour, Dr. Sanwo-Olu emphasized the importance of discipline, patriotism, and purposeful career planning. She encouraged the participants to consider careers in the armed forces and other security services, describing them as honourable and rewarding paths of national service.
“This exposure is not just about sightseeing; it is about shaping your future. At this critical stage of your lives, you must begin to think intentionally about your career paths,” she said.
The First Lady noted that declining interest in military careers among young people may stem from limited exposure and misconceptions about the profession. She explained that the LBCI was structured to bridge that gap through mentorship, engagement, and firsthand experience.
At Ikeja Cantonment, Dr. Sanwo-Olu was represented by Mrs. Falilat Obasa, who reaffirmed the Lagos State Government’s commitment to nurturing responsible and disciplined young boys through structured programmes.
In his remarks, the Commander of the 9 Brigade of the Nigerian Army, Brigadier-General Ayokunle Owolabi, described the initiative as a strategic platform for shaping young minds and steering them away from negative influences. He stressed that discipline remains the bedrock of success in both military and civilian life.
“The Nigerian Army is not just about wearing the uniform; it is about building character and leadership,” he told the participants.
Similarly, the Air Officer Commanding, Logistics Command, Ikeja, Air Vice Marshal Abubakar Suleh, commended the initiative, highlighting the importance of early mentorship in building responsible adults. He urged the boys to remain focused on their dreams and work diligently toward achieving them.
Officials of the Department of State Services and the Nigerian Navy also praised the programme, noting that early exposure to security institutions fosters patriotism, integrity, and national consciousness among youths.
The 2026 LBCI Residential Camp, now in its fourth edition, has attracted over 500 boys from public and private schools, as well as correctional and underserved communities across Lagos State. The four-day camp is designed to provide mentorship, leadership training, and career guidance aimed at raising disciplined, confident, and socially responsible young men.
