Livestock Minister Inspects Key Development Projects in Maiduguri

The Minister of Livestock Development, Idi Mukhtar Maiha, has inspected major livestock development facilities in Maiduguri, Borno State, ahead of their official commissioning.

The inspection was conducted in company with the Borno State Deputy Governor, Umar Usman Kadadur, who oversees the state’s Ministry of Livestock Development.

Among the facilities inspected was the Borno Liquid Nitrogen Plant, where the minister assessed the available equipment and power supply system to ascertain its readiness for operation.

Maiha also inspected the Borno State Gene Plasm Bank, which supports artificial insemination programmes aimed at improving livestock breeds and increasing productivity among farmers.

The minister further visited the state’s cattle breeding facility, where animals imported from Brazil are being used for crossbreeding with local breeds. The initiative is designed to improve the quality, productivity and resilience of livestock in the state.

The inspection tour also covered the Poultry Production Unit and Dairy Processing Plant, where the minister received briefings on ongoing efforts to expand poultry production, improve milk processing and strengthen livestock value chains.

The projects form part of broader efforts to modernise livestock production, enhance animal breeding and processing capacity, create economic opportunities and improve food security in Borno State.

The minister’s inspection underscores the Federal Government’s commitment to supporting livestock development through improved infrastructure, technology, breeding programmes and value-chain investments.
