A recent town hall meeting for media practitioners in Maiduguri, Borno State, emphasized the importance of creating awareness about the Police Act 2020 and Regulations, as well as issues of human rights violations.

The meeting recently organized in Maiduguri by the Rule of Law and Empowerment Initiative, also known as Partners West Africa Nigeria (PWAN) , aimed to promote a better understanding of the Act and its implications for the public.

Ms. Zainab Waziri, Programme Officer of PWAN, stressed the need for a massive enlightenment campaign on the Act and human rights.

She emphasized that this would strengthen police-community relationships and promote public trust.

Dr. Kelechi Akubueze, a consultant with PWAN, highlighted the crucial role of media organizations in creating public awareness about the Police Act 2020.

He noted that this would encourage security agents to be more familiar with the Act and respect human rights.

The meeting drew participants from six states, including Adamawa, Bauchi, Borno, Gombe, Taraba, and Yobe.

PWAN, an Abuja-based NGO, is committed to promoting citizens’ participation, improving security governance, and enhancing adherence to the Rule of Law and Empowerment Initiative in Nigeria and West Africa.
