The footage, said to have been recorded at exactly 3:00 a.m., was brought to public attention by local eyewitness and social media personality Tetey Tay. According to him, the video appears to show several shadowy, human-like figures moving in what some viewers describe as a coordinated dance across sections of the cemetery. Since emerging online, the clip has spread rapidly, triggering intense debate and speculation.
Management of the Awudome Cemetery confirmed that the CCTV cameras were installed in December as part of efforts to enhance security following reports of vandalism, break-ins, and suspicious nighttime activities. Cemetery administrator, Kwame Agyemang, said the primary objective of the surveillance system was to ensure safety and protect the grounds. He added that the footage in question has been handed over to relevant authorities for proper assessment.
Security and digital forensics experts have cautioned against drawing premature conclusions. Dr. Esi Boateng, a specialist in digital forensics, explained that low-light and infrared cameras are known to produce visual distortions caused by reflections, insects, fog, or sensor glitches, which can sometimes resemble moving figures. She stressed that detailed analysis is necessary before attributing the images to anything unusual.
Despite these explanations, the video has continued to capture public imagination, with social media users offering conflicting interpretations. While some insist the footage shows ghost-like figures moving in formation, others believe it may be an optical illusion, technical malfunction, or deliberate manipulation.
Police authorities have urged residents to remain calm. According to police spokesperson, Inspector Daniel Mensah, security agencies are aware of the circulating footage and are working with technical experts to determine the true nature of the movement captured by the cameras.
